In the first photo, the victorious Vernons (including some of the newly inaugurated women’s team) celebrate with the Mayor, Cllr Tracey Flannery, her daughter Charlotte (acting as Mayor Consort for the day), and Kieran Toal, who worked his socks off volunteering on the day.![]()

Money raised by the Cup goes to the designated mayoral charities, which this year are Guardians of Nature, Cedar House Counselling and Medical Aid for Palestinians.![]()

The generous match sponsor was local businessman Chris Hughes and his company, Skyscape Property Management. ![]()

Skyscape also sponsor the shirts of Penwortham Cricket Club. Chris spoke to the Mayor about the exciting building work at their club, with a beautiful new function room being added to the already impressive facilities. The Mayor commented “this will be a very welcome addition to amenities available in here in Middleforth”. ![]()

The Mayor of Penwortham, Cllr Tracey Flannery, along with many Penwortham Town Councillors had a great time at the Mayor’s Cricket Cup 2026. ![]()

The annual Cup was established by keen cricketer Cllr Ian Watkinson, and was first contested under the mayoralty of Cllr David Shaw. Each year it sees Penwortham Cricket Club (last year’s winners) face off against Vernon Carus Cricket Club. ![]()

This year’s match took place on Sunday 30th August, at Vernon Carus in Middleforth.![]()

As they are celebrating their 60 years’ anniversary, it felt fitting that Vernon Carus beat Penwortham this year, in an exciting match that managed to avoid the rain! ![]()
The match was followed by live music and a great atmosphere well into the evening in the smart club house. ![]()
