A message from the The Mayor; Councillor Geoff Crewe:-

Mayoral Concert – Priory Academy – 14.3.20

The Mayoress and I would like to publicly thank Matt Eastham, Head Teacher, his colleagues and students at Priory Academy for allowing us to put on this event at his school.  Our thanks also to fellow Councillors and Steve and colleagues at the Town Council for their support.

The concert was a great success and all concerned performed wonderfully well.

We would like to specifically thank, Joe Berry, Cat Morewin and VM Longton Choir our professional performers who were excellent!   A special mention must be made of Katy B who, as well as delivering a brilliant spot to conclude the programme, kindly acted as our MC for the evening.

The younger performers were also brilliant, students from Priory reprised songs from their recent musical We Will Rock You and certainly rocked it!  Further, students from Double R Arts, namely Darcy, Eloise, Gabriel, Kate and Rose treated us to superb solo and duet performances .

We would also like to thank Harry and Marion Hancock, the Mayor and Mayoress of South Ribble for supporting the event and all the delightful residents of Penwortham who kindly attended on the night.

Thank you also to our delightful special guests  all of them friends, old and new whom we chose to represent the 3 Mayoral charities as they had all lost loved ones under circumstances relating to the 3 charities.  Whilst we are sorry you will have had sadness in your hearts on the evening, Helen and I hope the music chosen also raised your spirits and brought back happy, loving memories of those no longer with you.

We are sorry all who attended the concert were required to use the sanitiser/soap and wipes at the door before we let you into the school hall, and of course, “elbow bumps only,” (Mayoral handshakes stopped 7.3.20).  With the current health emergency, we felt it only right to take such precautions, and we are pleased everyone shared our view on this!

So many thanks again to all involved particularly Tim and Mary Young who manned the refreshment stall so efficiently.

Finally, thanks to Newgate Nurseries for kindly lending us 6 large wooden planters laden with fresh flowering bedding plants used to line and decorate the front of the stage.

We had hoped to raise £250 or so for the Mayoral charities but thanks to your generosity, the amazing sum of £600.95 was raised, which is brilliant!  The Mayoral charities of Cancer UK, Lancashire Mind and Diabetes UK will all benefit greatly.

Take care and keep safe.

Best wishes, Geoff and Helen,

Mayor and Mayoress of Penwortham
