The Mayor of Penwortham, Councillor Geoff Crewe and the Mayoress Helen Crewe

A message from the The Mayor; Councillor Geoff Crewe:-

MAYORAL MESSAGE
As you know, in May, 2019, I was elected as your Mayor. At the same time, my Wife, Helen became the Mayoress. During my year of office, Helen and I have been extremely proud to represent you at over 80 events most of which took place in our lovely town. We have thoroughly enjoyed the year even though it began with the Gala being a washout! Despite that, we have attended formal appointments including Remembrance Day, Church Services, Flag Raisings and AGM’s plus even more informal events such as summer fayres, gardening events, musical productions/plays and many charitable events involving the eating of countless delicious cakes!
We have met thousands of residents and visitors to the town both young and old and believe we have made many more new friends along the way. My hopes of shaking 10,000 hands in my year of office were dashed by Covid-19 but I am delighted that I managed about 7,500 by the beginning of March! We were due to hand over our chains to the new Mayor and Mayoress on 2 May, but the pandemic has prevented this. However, at the recent ‘virtual,’ meeting of the Town Council my fellow Councillors kindly agreed to extend my term of office for a further 6 months. In November, the new Mayor in turn will also serve for an eighteen month term after which it is hoped the Mayoralty may return to a more normal arrangement.
During the months ahead, whilst our duties will be more limited than usual, Helen and I hope and pray the current medical crisis will continue to improve so we will be able to meet many more of you, albeit ‘at a safe social distance!’ The Mayoress and I will continue to represent you all to the best of our abilities.
Finally, we send to you our sincere hope that you continue to follow Government advice, to take care and stay safe confident in the knowledge that our brilliant NHS and other carers, key workers and volunteers will be continuing their wonderful work with courage and love for us all.
With very best wishes,
Councillor Geoff Crewe and Mrs Helen Crewe
Mayor and Mayoress of Penwortham
